It’s easy to make a copy of a Word document. And it’s important, too. You don’t want to lose your work or accidentally delete it. In this quick guide, we’ll show you how to make a copy of your Word document.

How to make a copy of a single-page Word document

The easiest way to copy a single-page document is by selecting all the text. You can do that using the following keyboard shortcuts:

1. Press Ctrl + A to highlight all text.

2. Press Ctrl + C to copy the highlighted section.

If your document is just a paragraph, there’s another shortcut you can use:

1. Place your mouse cursor in the left margin.

2. Quickly click the left mouse button three times.

How to make a copy of a multi-page Word document

For multi-page documents, the above shortcuts won’t work. You’ll need to manually select the copy you want to duplicate. Here’s how:

1. Place your cursor at the beginning of the page.

2. Left-click and drag the cursor to the bottom of the page.

3. Press Ctrl + C.

You can also right-click and select Copy. Or you can go to Home > Copy.

How to create a new document

Ready to paste your copied contents into a new page? You can either create an additional page to your existing document, or create a new document.

Insert text into a new page

Here’s what you need to do to add a new page to an existing document:

1. Click Insert.

2. Click Pages.

3. Click Blank Page.

Voila! Now you’ll be able to paste the text into your new page by pressing Ctrl + P (or right-click and Paste).

Want an entirely new document, instead? Here’s how to do that:

1. Click File.

2. Click New.

3. Click Blank document.

And that’s it! As above, you just need to paste the contents into the new document by pressing Ctrl + P, then saving it.
