Visual Intelligence can be used to capture images of items (using the Action Button or the Camera Control button on your iPhone) and then find out more details about them using the ChatGPT app (which is opened when Visual Intelligence is accessed).
How to set the Action Button to launch Visual Intelligence
All models of the iPhone 17 now use the Action Button, located on the left-hand side of the phone above the volume control buttons. This can be set up to launch a certain item when the button is pressed.
The functionality of the Action Button can be determined in the Settings app:

3) Swipe between the Action Button options to view each one. Whichever option is showing will be the one that is activated by the Action Button:

How to set the Camera Control button to launch Visual Intelligence
As well as accessing Visual Intelligence from the Action Button, it can also be set up in Settings > Camera > Camera Control and dragging the Press and Hold button for Launch Visual Intelligence to On.
How to use Visual Intelligence
To use Visual Intelligence, hold down the Action Button or the Camera Control button (depending on how these buttons are set up, as above), frame the required item and tap once on the Ask button to view more information about the item. This is a new feature in iOS 26.
