Need to write fast? Go from blank page to first draft using Copilot in Word – in seconds!

Using Copilot in Word is a new feature in Microsoft 365. To get started with Copilot in Word:

1)  Create a new blank document, and click in the Describe what you’d like to draft with Copilot query box at the top of the page:

2)  Enter a text prompt in the query box, and click on this button (Send):

Click on the microphone icon at the right-hand side of the Copilot query box to use the microphone for spoken commands.

3)  Content is created, based on the text prompt. The text is highlighted with a colored background, indicating that it is still in draft format:

Copilot prompts for written content in Word can also include requests for style and length.

4)  The dialog box that appears once a Copilot draft has been created can be used to generate a new draft and also produce text in a different style.

5)  Click on this icon to generate a new draft of the entire text:

6)  Numerous drafts can be created, and the number of these is indicated at the top of the dialog box. Click on the arrowheads to move through drafts that have been created.

7)  To change the style of a draft, click in the query box and add a prompt – e.g. “Make the tone friendlier”:

Experiment with different styles in Step 7 to see how this changes the tone of the text.

8)  The new style is displayed, still in draft format:

9)  Click on the Keep it button to add the draft as the current Word document:
