At Microsoft’s live event on 21st January we learned more about Windows 10, which is expected in the Autumn of this year.
- It’s going to be free to upgrade from Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, for a year from its launch date
The new version will be also very much about making those who were unhappy with Windows 8 happy again. The focus is very much about the keyboard and mouse, but those who have devices with touch capabilities haven’t been forgotten. It will include:
- One Desktop – not split between the ‘old’ desktop and modern apps
- A new web browser, called Spartan
- Xbox app on the Desktop
- Expanded start menu – looks more like Windows 7 than Windows 8
- Cortana – voice controlled assistant with headset
- Apps that run in a window
- Snap function – will work with all apps; snap four apps on the same screen
- Task View – see a thumbnail of all open apps
- Multiple desktops
